Core English Classes
The Core English Classes (CECs) are all integrated, meaning that the five skills of language learning are all emphasized in every class. The chart below gives a visual description of how the classes in each level are designed. The CECs are offered Monday through Thursdays mornings for three hours.

American Culture and Slang Classes
This class is taught only on Friday mornings. Like the CECs, it lasts for three hours. The emphasis will be on American cultural issues, nuances, taboos, and slang.

The English language curriculum for ECI's Short Cultural programs provides for three levels of instruction. Below are the names of the levels and course descriptions.

Basic:
This level concentrates on laying the foundation of English for students that have had little or no English instruction. Students will look at the structure of the English language, build a vocabulary, and build conversational skills and strategies. Upon completion of this level, the student will be able to communicate in common, everyday situations. The student will also have a better understanding of basic common idioms and will be able to apply them to everyday conversation.

Intermediate:
Students at this level will build on the foundation that has already been laid by their previous studies in English. This level will concentrate on understanding the more difficult aspects of the structure of the English language and sharpening conversational skills. Upon completion of this level, the student will also have a better understanding of cultural issues in the United States and will be able to communicate by using high-livel idiomatic expressions and phrases.

Advanced:
The advanced level is for students who already have the ability to communicate in English but need to learn the most complex structures of English grammar and use them in a natural way. Students that complete this level will have a high understanding of the complicated structures of English and more sophisticated idioms and phrases.
